This PGA European tour professional was interested in lowering
his annual stroke average of 72.11 in the short-term down to 71.
This inevitably involved addressing aspects of his game thrown
up by specific stats like driving accuracy (56.1%), greens in regulation
(61.6%), putts per round (29), etc. It was quickly assessed that
the primary improvements would come from resolving inconsistencies
and weaknesses in his driving, fairway irons and putting, mental
pre-shot and set-up routines.
The outcome of this successful work was carried out in just a
few hours over a few weeks. That was to build an invincible ‘competitive
mental toughness’ capability and consistency in preparing
for each shot under competitive pressure. In three main areas of
his game – driving off-the-tee, fairway irons and putting.
Whilst they are all different, in general we worked on creating
carefully designed and powerful sequences of clear and detailed
inner-pictures, integrated with club ‘swoosh’ sounds
of the ball hitting the sweet spot, positive inner dialogue, accompanied
by effortless ‘zoning’ feelings by ‘building
effortless visualisation, sounds and feelings into his routine’.
This process uses many techniques including a powerful muscle memory
programming routine for installing new/improved mind/body patterns,
together with learning new relaxation and breathing techniques,
remove indecision, developed powerful up-time and down-time trance
states for improved state management, energy directionalisation,
careful choice of words (drawn from psycho-linguistics!) which
enhance performance, and much else.
This important ‘competitive mental toughness’ work
put this player on sound footing to specifically improve his stroke
average and tour stats, decrease the number of missed cuts, enabling
him to make more top ten finishes and confidently move forward
towards additional tournament wins. If you are serious about improving
your world and money list ranking, lowering your stroke average,
boosting playing performance, or simply want to raise your game
