MIND4Golf Corporate Golf Day Events

Golf as a powerful metaphor for business success . . .

Question: I received your email (Golf as a powerful metaphor for business success - the MIND4Golf Corporate Golf Day Events) and am interested to know to what extent I would gain an insight into techniques for business improvement, sales success, team development and rapid learning that I could apply in an organisational context. Could you give me some information on that? Thanks very much.

MIND4Golf Answer: Many thanks for your excellent question. The real point of the day is for participants to have a lot of fun and enjoyment, whilst learning new life-skills easily, quickly and effectively which they can apply to their golf game, playing performance and enjoyment, as well as to business, sales, communications, goal focus, and team building. Naturally they need no awareness of the sophistication and elegance of our advanced methods. Much like the user-friendliness of your car, TV and computer - the complexity is hidden. So here goes anyway, for those who really want to know . . .

In order to answer your query, at least partially, by attending the ‘MIND4Golf Corporate Golf Day Events’ you would gain invaluable insights into key ideas, profoundly different ways of thinking (and acting), and practical techniques which are directly relevant to your own, and others, accelerated personal, professional and organisational development. This event, and our (LeadershipDynamiX.com) unique business services, have taken many years of serious up-to-the-minute research, advanced behavioural modelling and practical client experience, with many executives and organisations, to bring to fruition.

As you will understand to fully appreciate what we deliver requires an 'immersion' in the experience - hence, as just one approach (a metaphor), the ‘MIND4Golf Corporate Golf Day Events’. Within the constraints of this rapid development experience only being a single day, we expect you will learn a great deal, and further you will have the rare opportunity to practically apply your newly acquired skills immediately, ie by actually playing 6 to 9 holes (ie. technically called a 'convincer cognitive strategy' - you will have irrefutable and measurable proof to yourself, and others, of your learning success on the same day). What is even more important is you will have acquired the core generic learning-to-learn skills of excellence. These keys to improved playing scores and consistency (professional growth, leadership development, business improvement and culture change), importantly without further instruction, involve the 3 S's - Seeing, States and Swing:

  • Seeing - involves visualisation (if you can't imagine it, you absolutely can't do it! - directly relevant to success (and failure) in golf, business, relationships and life), energy alignment (focus of attention - cantering, grounding, peripheral/foveal vision, etc. relevant to personal congruency/believability/walking-your-talk.), decision-making - as in golf, business and life! - and how to be better), preshot routine (your 'sensory' mind/body pattern for success - shows how you can learn a new complex and sophisticated cognitive/behavioural sequence easily and quickly - relevant to all learning), pattern recognition (for reading conditions, interpretation and making adjustments), thinking strategies (motivation, dealing with others, distractions, winning/losing/recovery, etc.), etc.
  • States involves the 8 C's - Composure, Confidence, Concentration, Curiosity, Calmness, Congruency, Control and Commitment (demonstrates how new neural (mind/body) connections are made by accessing, reinforcing and intensifying these 'inner' resources to a new context - also learn how to block negative thoughts, change harmful self-talk, control negative emotions of; frustration, disappointment, impatience, defeat, anger at bad shots, fear of failure and success, self-esteem, persistence, nerves and anxiety, competitive pressure etc. - relevant in all aspects of business, career, sports and life!), learn how to play 'in-the-moment' (just 'being'), etc.
  • Swing - involves rapid muscle-memory 'grooving' of successful shot-making (we take a radically different approach to the 'conventional' swing coaching, which inadvertently promotes slow/even regressive learning, and for the most part the 'faults and fixes' approach deployed perpetuates a culture of sustained failure by continually focusing on 'what's wrong' (people become very good at getting what they don't want!). The patterns we deploy enable people to progress rapidly with further (even infrequent) practice and playing, without further instruction.

Whilst it could argued that the golf swing learning part of the day (using rapid neuromuscular imprinting - less than a quarter of the day), could be said to be 'context specific', even this is illustrative of rapid 'one-trial learning' of 'excellence' - in this case. Versus for most people who experience significant amounts of negative childhood and cultural behavioural imprinting, largely responsible for dysfunctional or limiting behaviours in adulthood. Interestingly the process is the same, and all behaviours (our business speciality) can for the most part be easily and beneficially intensified, or reversed and removed!

Many people who take up golf, may typically spend many years, even their entire lives, trying to accomplish some level of mastery (and in business and careers), without success. Part of the reason for this, is they may over time become extraordinarily knowledgeable about what causes failure, and what goes wrong and why. By focusing on the 99% of what causes problems, they unwittingly become experts in the problem NOT the solution. People get PRECISELY what they pay attention to (either what they want = success, or don't want = failure!) - in business, careers, relationships, sports and life.

We only focus on the 1% of skills, competencies and knowledge 'excellence' that you really need to know to succeed, and importantly, sustain improvement (generic learning-to-learn techniques) with practice and playing. For example you will actually learn some aspects of the world number one Tiger Wood's patterns of excellence. As far as we know we are the only people in the world anywhere, who understand and teach this. Why do we do this? Simply they are best, and the results are replicable by anyone, even if they don't play very often, Furthermore, it takes less effort and time than the traditional 'faults and fixes' sustained-failure hope-dependency approach, and the results are miles, and miles, better. Though as you would expect you would need a little more than that to seriously rival the best player/s in the world!

As you can imagine this approach will not be welcomed by everyone. It may seem alarming, even threatening (since it challenges the very foundations of many 'proven theories' and 'well-established reputations'!), to the largely slow, difficult and inefficiency of most conventional learning (training, development, education, instruction, e-learning, etc.) methods. This event is just one innovative example of the emergent transformation in Rapid Effective Learning that has already begun. If you've got this far, I hope this answers your question? In the meantime I look forward to meeting you at one of our events in the very near future.

The deputy editor of Golf Monthly participated in a recent event; this is what he published about his experiences; "Do you find an excuse to avoid playing golf because you don't want to embarrass yourself? Well, the MIND4Golf Corporate Golf Day Events combine sports psychology with simple instruction techniques to enable beginners to grasp the basic golfing skills and to instil confidence to go out on the course. Much of the emphasis is placed on the psychological aspect of the game . . . ensuring you have the correct mental approach. On the instruction side, don't expect lots of in-depth analysis of how to grip the club, how to grove the perfect swing or get the right posture. The technique adopted is 'look and learn', as you study the . . . swing for long irons, the short game and putting . . . are simple and easily practised." Gary Martin. Deputy Editor. Golf Monthly. September 2001.

Appendix

If you really want to get technical, we use (by stacking, layering and sequencing) a vast number of advanced conscious and unconscious, multi-level, communications techniques to rapidly accomplish our/and our client’s outcomes. We use these approaches in ALL our business, team-building and sports work - coaching, courses and consulting, and this includes; learning styles, sensory thinking modalities (visual, auditory, kinaesthetic and non-sensory words/phrases), psycholinguistics (negation, sensory-based and submodality predicates, many other language patterns), preconscious processing (to minimise resistance), non-verbal language (body language - all shifts in posture, gestures, facial tension, movement, etc.), metaphors and stories (isomorphic), state management (emotions, moods, feelings), cognitive strategies (motivation, decisions, commitment, etc.), visualisation, goal setting and achievement, energy alignment (centering, grounding, etc.) belief change, values alignment, muscle-memory programming, inner-game methods, autosuggestion, zoning/peak-performance states, foveal/peripheral vision (peak performance/enlightenment state), relaxation techniques, etc. etc.

Some general notes about MIND4Golf learning and development events

We use a wide diversity of accelerated learning-to-learn principles in all our work (coaching, courses and consulting). Since we know what people can actually do and directly apply to their work situation, before they leave the classroom, the feedback after each event is always affirmative.

By way of contrast 'conventional' training methods are typically directed at 'what' to do, transferring knowledge or building understanding of the problem, or academic theory. We work with many people who have attended numerous 'conventional' courses and understand the theory but cannot actually do it. Our work by contrast is almost exclusively focused on rapid effective behavioural change, the 'how' to do it, and giving people the practical ‘skills’, enabling them to succeed. These events use a state-of-the-art multi-level learning-to-learn design and delivery methodology called the High-Performance Format (HPF) - A universal & measurable, workshop methodology proven to compress the learning curve

This state-of-the-art unique innovation in training and development productivity is a powerful, well-proven and universal methodology.
